## About the Role

We're seeking a Managing Director to lead our System of Quality Management (So. QM) Monitoring & Evaluation program. In this senior leadership position, you'll provide independent assessment of how effectively our quality management systems are working across the firm.

The role sits apart from our Quality Intelligence & Causal Analysis function, meaning you won't be involved in performing root cause analyses, identifying quality trends, conducting predictive risk assessments, or evaluating action effectiveness. Instead, you'll direct the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting processes that help us understand whether our quality management systems are achieving their intended purpose.

Your work will support reporting to firm leadership and external regulators, and you'll serve as a key source of objective evaluation and insight regarding the effectiveness of the So. QM. You'll maintain an independent perspective when evaluating the effectiveness of our quality management system and related remediation activities, providing insights and recommendations to firm leadership on opportunities for continuous improvement.

## What You'll Do

In this role, you'll direct the firm's monitoring and evaluation program for the So. QM, directing activities designed to identify, evaluate, and communicate deficiencies within the system. You'll lead the assessment of design, implementation, and operating effectiveness of the So. QM in accordance with QC 1000, ISQM 1, and SQMS 1 standards, and direct the annual So. QM evaluation process, preparing conclusions and certifications required under applicable professional standards.

You'll facilitate analysis of findings identified through monitoring activities, inspections, root cause analyses, and other quality-related sources, evaluating the severity and pervasiveness of identified deficiencies and their impact on effectiveness of the So. QM. Collaboration is key here—you'll work with others on directing monitoring activities to assess how well remediation efforts and corrective actions are working, and you'll provide objective challenge and evaluation regarding whether corrective actions adequately address identified deficiencies.

On the risk and controls side, you'll collaborate with stakeholders to understand quality risks impacting the firm's ability to perform engagements in accordance with professional standards, evaluate whether quality responses and controls established by process owners adequately address identified quality risks, and direct testing and monitoring activities related to the operation and effectiveness of controls within the So. QM. You'll also evaluate compliance with documentation and retention requirements associated with the operation of the So. QM and related monitoring activities.

In reporting and governance, you'll direct preparation of So. QM monitoring reports, annual evaluations, and related communications to firm leadership and governance bodies. You'll coordinate and administer the External Quality Control Function (EQCF) review process when applicable, assist in developing, monitoring, and evaluating Audit Quality Indicators (AQIs), and support PCAOB data requests and regulatory inquiries related to the So. QM.

## Leadership Responsibilities

You'll direct a team of professionals responsible for executing key monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and remediation assessment activities. You'll establish priorities, objectives, and performance expectations for the Monitoring & Evaluation function, act as a career advisor, coach, and mentor to managers and directors, and promote collaboration across quality management stakeholders to support effective execution of monitoring and evaluation responsibilities.

## Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you'll need a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Accounting, and a CPA license. We're looking for someone with twelve or more years of public accounting experience, along with significant experience with accounting firm quality management standards.

Required experience includes:

- Leading audit quality, quality monitoring, inspection, professional practice, regulatory, risk management, or quality management functions

- Evaluating the design, implementation, and operating effectiveness of quality management systems, controls, or governance processes

- Assessing remediation activities and evaluating the effectiveness of corrective actions related to quality deficiencies

We'd also prefer candidates with experience in PCAOB inspections, quality control/quality management standards, regulatory oversight, or internal monitoring programs, as well as experience preparing executive-level reporting, presentations, and governance communications, and experience leading and developing professional teams in a complex organizational environment.

## Technical Skills

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Power. Point, Outlook, and Teams. We'd prefer experience with data analytics, reporting, visualization, and workflow management tools, plus experience with accounting, auditing, and regulatory research databases.

## Additional Knowledge and Abilities

You should have extensive knowledge of PCAOB, AICPA, IAASB, and related quality management standards, including QC 1000, ISQM 1, and SQMS 1. You'll need a strong understanding of monitoring, evaluation, governance, risk assessment, control testing, and remediation frameworks, and a demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of processes, controls, and corrective actions while identifying opportunities for improvement.

You should have a strong understanding of root cause analysis methodologies and quality improvement principles, and the ability to develop trusted relationships with process owners, response owners, and other stakeholders. You'll be fostering a collaborative environment that encourages transparency, constructive dialogue, and continuous improvement while maintaining objectivity and independence in evaluating the effectiveness of the So. QM.

We're looking for someone with exceptional critical thinking, analytical, and professional judgment skills, and the ability to synthesize complex information into concise, actionable insights for executive leaders and governance bodies. You'll need strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, excellent written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills, and the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization without direct authority.

You should have demonstrated leadership skills including experience directing teams, developing talent, and fostering collaboration, the ability to challenge constructively and provide objective, independent perspectives on quality-related matters, and strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain focus on strategic objectives and firm-wide quality outcomes.

## Compensation

Individual salaries are determined after consideration of numerous factors including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. The national range is $240,000 to $280,000, with the Maryland range and NYC/Long Island/Westchester range also at $240,000 to $280,000.
